Making the Jump from Etsy to Shopify: One Month Later

One whirlwind of a month ago Oh, Hello went from being exclusively on Etsy to having our own website hosted by Shopify. It's crazy how fast a month can go and how much you can learn in those 30 days. I thought I'd sit down and muse over how the month has gone, problems we've faced, successes, and where I want to go from here.

The biggest change has been upkeep. With Etsy it's so easy to "set it and forget it," but OhHelloCo.com demands constant upkeep. Adding products, removing out of stock products we won't be getting more of, updating the homepage sliders, creating new collections, and on and on. There's loads of freedom that comes with the Shopify platform though and I definitely think the switch was a vital one to our survival in a market that's getting too saturated.

There's just something about having your own website. You feel more legit, more put together. We still heavily rely on Etsy for new customer acquisition, but the website is something entirely Oh, Hello. Overall I think our little community enjoys it and it feels special whenever I log on to the site. We aren't just one of a mass of people anymore. We have something that sets Oh, Hello apart even just a little.

Honestly I'm not sure what to do next or where to go. I'm happy with how the website is operating and have a lot of ideas for new products and projects down the road, but the second month of the website is a bit of a mystery to me. Do we expand the website to more of a community base? Do we add different products beyond just stationery goods? I'm not sure.

Every day is a new challenge and each new day is never like the last. Self-employment does that.
