Don't Worry About Unfollowers

Stat obsessing has become kind of the norm around the blogging community  no matter how much we swear we don't do it. It's normal to want to find gratification in your follower number increasing, but I know I've been guilty in the past of caring just a little too much when I lost a follower or the number didn't change. It's taken me quite a while to come to terms with unfollowers, but have found blogging peace lately with these truths...

  1. Unfollowers mean a more solid community who you know are following you for the right reasons. Many follow because of a giveaway and will leave shortly after. The ones that stick around are the ones you know are following you for your content and not what you're giving away.
  2. Your content isn't for everyone and unfollowers are just a testament to that. You can't make everyone happy all the time, so when someone unfollows it just means what you're writing isn't for them.
  3. The unfollowers aren't your audience, they are just passing through. Keep in mind that the people you're writing for (besides yourself) are the ones that are reading, not the ones that are leaving.
  4. Blogging goals should never be follower based, but should be more about quality anyway. If you're constantly stressing over your follower count then you aren't blogging for the right reasons.
  5. There are people who love your blog and they are the ones you should care more about than the ones that leave. There are a few lovely girls in my little blogging world that are the greatest I have ever met and support me like crazy. I care way more about them than the ones who decide to not keep following my content.
At the end of the day it's all about perspective. I'm no longer going to stress about people unfollowing my blog but focus on the ones that stick around. They're the important ones that build this little community around my content and push me to be better. Figure out the thing/s that motivate you and focus on those, rather than your follower count.

xoxo Kayla

  2. What lovely advice and I try and say those to not get discouraged but I know it's for the best and I have such nice followers.

  3. I completely agree with unfollowers meaning a more solid community :) I would prefer to have less followers that actually read my posts than tons of followers who don't read them at all :) It's kind of like the "tons of fake friends or one best friend" argument :P xx

  4. I agree with this, it's so hard not to keep checking follower count but I enjoy the intersection from the followers I do have.

  5. Lovely post! It's easy to get swallowed up by numbers, figures and stats, but with something this it really is quality over quantity! xx
