Contouring for Beginners

When I say contouring for beginners, I mean it. I'm a huge beginner when it comes to this area of the beauty world. I've always been enviable of those who can get the perfect chiseled look and now I'm seeking it myself. I've wanted to start messing around with contouring for quite a while, but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a high end palette. So when NYX released their Highlight and Contour Pro Palette for $25 I knew this was my chance.

What I like most about this palette is the vast range of color options. It allows me to be a chicken starting off and use the light shades, but get more confident over time and move around the palette more. In the photo I used the second from the right contour shade and the highlight shade right above it. It was so easy. I applied it to the hallows of my cheeks like everyone is always saying to do and blended with the Real Techniques Contour Brush. It actually worked. Now to just get a little more daring and travel to other parts of my face...

The palette itself is really high quality for being a NYX product. The shades are rich, creamy, and really easy to blend. I didn't find myself spending days trying to buff away harsh lines. It's definitely a product that can be built up too. The palette is also a seriously impressive size. The biggest palette I've owned to date, it reminds me of the size of the MAC eye shadow palettes. I just love when you get a lot of bang for your buck in the beauty world.

I'm definitely still new at this contour thing and any pointers will help. I also think it's important to share experiences like these. I'm not a professional beauty expert and this blog is a place to not only share what I'm loving, but also share what I'm learning about beauty as well. So send pointers and contour tips my way!

xoxo Kayla

  2. Oh man I just caved and ordered the Anastasia contour kit last night, maybe I should have waited and got this instead! Lovely review, I'm going to tell my sister (who's been lusting after the Anastasia palette as well) about this!

    1. I really almost bought the Anastasia one but when I saw this I thought I'd give the cheaper option a go. I'd love to hear what you think of that one!

  4. That palette looks amazing, I love that it has the banana shade in it, I think those are really hard to find because cheaper palettes tend to just have a shimmery highlight in them!
