Revlon & Maybelline Haul

I think I deserve a pat on the back for avoiding the drugstore aisles for so long. But after a somewhat glum day I decided to treat myself to a few new goodies. A lot of the drugstores and drugstore makeup retailers around me do a terrible job at marking which products are new so I'm not sure if any of these items are in fact new or just new to me.

I hoed and hummed about getting the Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Foundation because of the price, but I haven't tried a new foundation in a while and the whipped aspect seemed interesting. Shade choosing was incredibly difficult because you can't really see the color through the glass packaging. I ended up with 250 and am proud of how close to skin tone it is. Am I really improving in the shade selection process? I've only tried it once or twice since picking it up so I'll report back when I have a fully baked opinion.

Once I realized that this impromptu drugstore trip would result in dropping some twenties, the Revlon Powder Blush in "Wine  Not" was quickly in my hand. It's my favorite item from the haul and will be my staple blush for autumn and winter. It's beautiful, pigmented, and lasts. It's a new obsession.

I went a little lipstick crazy at the Maybelline display. The selection was fantastic and I was feeling the plum shades, but when am I not!? From darkest to lightest I picked up "450 Mauve Mania" "665 Lust for Blush" and "235 Warm Me Up". "Lust for Blush" is a matte and the other two are basic lipsticks. At first I was all about these. They were creamy and pigmented. Yet after a few applications and wearing down of the glossy outer coat on the lipstick, I'm not too crazy about them. They ball up weirdly on the lips and flake off. Maybe I just have to keep working with them to get them to get past this weird awkward layer or something, but they went from being downright awesome to meh in just a couple uses.

Have you picked up any new products recently?

A Girl's Best Friend

There's just something about diamonds that makes a girl all giddy inside. I for one am no exception to a beautiful piece of jewelry and definitely diamond bracelets designs. I can't get enough of an adorable bracelet that can be worn every day or to bring together a formal outfit.

I featured this Classic Column Link Five Diamond Bracelet in silver in an outfit of the night post last week and wanted to give it its own post. I was fortunate enough to be contacted by Anjolee to review this bracelet and I thought it would make a perfect addition to the blog. I've always been interested in adding more fashion posts to my blog and I've gotten a lot of positive feedback when I do!

This bracelet is amazing. It's one of the most dainty pieces of jewelry I have ever owned, but is sturdy beyond belief. I'm a bit of a klutz and corners of desks and door frames tend to sneak up on my swinging limbs. I have accidentally hit this beautiful thing a couple of times to my great horror. It took those accidental bumps like a champ and has really impressed me.

The clasp is also a thing of genius. The ends slide together and click into place. There's also a little hook that swings over and adds another level of security. I've had too many almost detrimental moments with other bracelets when their clasps didn't hold up and I almost lost them. Not to worry with this baby. She's not going anywhere.

The Anjolee website has a lot of options and really helps to provide a lot of detail about each of their products. None of my questions went unanswered when I was browsing the site drooling over tennis bracelets. I've never experienced a jewelry website before and if other businesses are anything like Anjolee, they definitely are doing it right.

I love this bracelet and think everyone should have a few pieces of quality jewelry for special occasions. Plus who wouldn't want to get a beautiful bracelet for Christmas? Definitely a splurge to sneak on your Christmas lists.

Eyebrow Lovin'

It's only been very recently that I've started to give attention to the little caterpillars on my face. In the past I've barely even noticed them, let alone shaped them or made them look somewhat presentable. My time in the beauty community has made me realize that brows are gosh darn important and that I best start paying attention to them.

Now for a brow noob like myself, the wide array of shades and choices is still a bit intimidating. I've looked at the Anastasia stand time and time again and can never figure out my shade. Thankfully a few Ipsy glam bags have provided me with a OFRA Universal Eyebrow Pencil and a Chella Dazzling Dark Brown Eyebrow Pencil or I would have never gotten past the initial fear of choosing the wrong shade. Both pencils are very similar in color with the OFRA one being a bit lighter. I can't really notice a difference between the two, but I find myself subconsciously gravitating towards the OFRA offering more because of the five dollar price difference.

I definitely want to explore the world of brows more in the upcoming months and maybe even get my eyebrows professionally done. I don't remember the last time I even tried to pluck them. For having no attention whatsoever they definitely could be worse...

Any suggestions of brow pencils I need to try? I have somewhat light brown hair but I've been enjoying my brows being a little bit darker than the rest of my hair so hopefully that can help with color suggestions as I'm just downright rubbish.

Oxblood Oxfords

There is a new shoe love in my life and it's these Christian Siriano Debonair Oxfords. I was recently on the hunt for a new pair of brown boots and stumbled across these in a Payless Shoesource. How unlike Payless to have some seriously adorable shoes that are made incredibly well. I love me some Payless shoes since they're usually so cheap, but I'm not expecting much in the quality and longevity department.

I didn't come away from the trip with the boots I was looking for, but in a way these are so much better. They had a few different color choices, but I went with the oxblood option. They're a mix between matte and glossy with a very firm toe and thick sole. I trudged through the wilderness in them and didn't worry about them not keeping up. They did bother my toes a bit, but I'm still breaking them in and know they'll be 100% comfy in no time.

I'm loving having these babies in my pretty pathetic shoe collection. I always think I'll wear the shoes I buy but they end up in a pile somewhere going unloved. These I know I'll definitely get use out of while breaking away from my moccasin loving ways.

Have you picked up any new shoes lately?

This Week's Most Loved #43

With my sights set on a relaxing weekend filled with absolutely nothing, let's talk about the products I've been loving this week!

When I finally cracked open the Makeup Forever Smokey Extravagant Mascara sample I wasn't expecting much. Mascaras usually just aren't anything special and this weird brush had me skeptical. I still don't really care for the brush, but I'm in love with this mascara! Long, defined lashes with a lot of good volume near the bottom, I've been wearing this mascara all week and loving it. The price tag however has me hesitant to spend that much on a silly mascara. I'll enjoy the sample while I have it and remember it fondly when it's used up,

Although the NARS One Night Stand Cheek Palette is no longer available (has it already been a year since its release?!) I couldn't help but include it. The shades are fantastic and I've really enjoyed going darker in my blush choices this week. I spent enough money on the palette, might as well get some use out of it right?

The Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in "Flirtatious" has made a permanent appearance on my lips this week. It's a bright pinky red that doesn't scare off a bold lip-phobic girl like me. It's incredibly creamy and lasts ages. Plus you know my thing about crayon products...

To mix things up in the base department this week I've been adding a bit of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation to my tinted moisturizer routine. It helps add more coverage without looking heavy or cakey on the skin. My skin has been redder than usual lately and this helps to even everything out nicely.

What products have you been loving this week?

OOTN: Sorority Formal

This past weekend my sorority held its annual White Rose formal. It’s one of my favorite events we put on and it gives us all an excuse to get fancy and celebrate our chapter. So I’m mixing things up today and sharing with you my outfit of the night.

I recently picked up this ModCloth Flight Plans Dress during a sale and thought it was the perfect sophisticated, yet simple dress for the evening. It’s more or less a cotton maxi dress, but with a pair of black heels and some simple silver jewelry it’s one fancy getup.

For jewelry I kept it dainty with my lavaliere from Alex and this beautiful bracelet* from Anjolee. It's this offering in particular in silver and I'm downright obsessed. Since receiving it I haven't worn anything else. It's the perfect dainty, yet sturdy piece that I'll be going into more detail about in a later post. I also brought an unremarkable black clutch with me that I've had for as long as I can remember.

The event was amazing. I ended up receiving two awards! I received "Most Likely to be National President" and "Shoulder to Cry On." I've never received an award at this event before which had me over the moon and feeling pretty darn good about myself. It was amazing to spend time with my three lovely littles (in the last photo!) and dance like an idiot with Alex. I vlogged the event if you're interested in seeing more!

It's not often that I can get fancy so I definitely try to enjoy these moments. When was the last time that you got fancy?

Fall Blush Flush

One of my favorite parts of my makeup routine is blush. It's like the cherry on top for my look and I love rifling through my blush bin for whichever color I'm going to wear. Autumn is definitely my favorite time for blush as it's an unneeded excuse to break out the darker shades.

Although a couple of these shades don't seem to be available anymore, the general color/shade vibe is still there and a good dupe should be easy to find. First up is "Goulue" the bottom left shade in the NARS One Night Stand Blush Palette. This was a limited edition palette last Christmas and has been getting my love ever since. I try not to talk about it too much since you can't get your hands on it, but "Goulue" has been my favorite blush to wear lately. If you're looking for a similar shade, NARS "Dolce Vita" is quite close but a little bit more on the apricot peach side.

The second blush I foolishly included you can no longer get on their website, but it's quite an easy to find a similar shade is the Kiko Rock Attraction Blush in "06 Visionary Sienna." A dark, dusty rose shade, this brings out the cheeks nicely while still being tasteful. NYX's "Silky Rose" looks to be a good alternative.

On the lighter side of things is Tarte's "Peaceful." This is the kind of blush that adds perfectly to a natural autumn flush without looking to done up. It's a rosy peach shade with some shimmer to add a little something extra. Definitely a great every day blush no matter what time of year.

the NYX Mosaic Powder Blush in "Silk" doesn't look very dark in the packaging, but one swirl of the brush and you got some great autumn color. The mosaic pieces blend together nicely in a shade that's basically a mix between "Goulue" and "Visionary Sienna." You can definitely pile "Silk" on for a deep, dark cheek if the mood strikes. I like a nice light sweep on the cheeks for some definition and just the right amount of color.

What are your favorite blushes for fall?

Which Products, Which Brands

When it comes to certain products, some brands just do it better. They have come up with the perfect blend of ingredients for the perfect blush, lipstick or shadow. I'm rounding up my favorite goodies and brands and sharing them with you.

For blush no one can compete with Tarte. Their Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blushes are buttery, long-lasting, and downright gorgeous. The color range is exceptional and the packaging is perfection. Sure I wouldn't mind for the price to drop, but you definitely get what you pay for.

For lipsticks I'm a MAC lipstick girl through and through. I got my first lipstick a little over a year ago and it's been a love affair ever since. They're creamy, pigmented, easy to apply, and last. The color range is out of this world. I could stare at the display for ages and walk away with a depleted bank account. Everyone needs at least one.

If you're looking for a great cream eye shadow the Kiko Long Lasting Stick Eye Shadow are the best I've come across. Their packaging makes them the easiest shadows to apply ever and the pigmentation is spot on. They have a perfect amount of shimmer and last all day without creasing or budging. If only they were sold in the US...

I definitely don't think Stila gets the props it deserves when it comes to eye shadows. My most used palette is definitely the In the Light palette. Rich, creamy, buttery shadows that look fantastic on the lids all day long. The color range of this palette is amazing and I've written a full review with a look if you're interested in seeing more.

NARS kills it in the tinted moisturizer department. Their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is dewy, has fantastic coverage, and lasts all day. The shade range is great just as long as you're not an idiot like me and choose the wrong shade the first time. Other bases can't compare to this.

What brands do you go to for certain products?

Five to Try

Beauty recommendations aren't a rare occurrence around these parts, but I find a nice wrap up "you need to try these products" post does quite nicely in singling out certain products. If you haven't tried these five products yet, you need to add them to your wishlist.

I've said this a million times by now and I'll probably rave about it a million more, but the Stila One Step Correct is one hell of a primer. I use it on a daily basis and although I start to get bummed as the colorful ribbons deplete faster than I would like, I'd buy this again and again (I already have!). It's the best one I've tried yet and I feel confident just wearing it on its own on makeup light days.

If you're looking for that last sign to try a Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush, this is definitely it. I waited ions to finally dish out the dollars for my first one and I'm still kicking myself for taking so long. By far my favorite blushes, the color range is exceptional and nothing can compete with their lasting power.

Another fast favorite of mine and something you need to try for yourself is MAC's "Teddy" Eye Kohl Pencil. A cooler toned brown that smudges like a dream and adds a subtle something to the eyes, it's a must have to fill out the eye liner collection.

On the cheaper side of things is the NYX Eye Shadow Base in "Skin Tone." The only eye shadow primer I've seen to actually prime my eyes and enhance my shadows. It's incredibly affordable and has lasted me ages. Definitely something to check out if you find yourself in the beauty aisles (as we always do).

I know the drugstore is filled with mascaras and it would take ages to try them, but put Maybelline's "The Rocket" to the top of the to-try list. My current favorite drugstore mascara, I keep going back to it when other drugstore and even high end mascaras let me down. Mascara is quite the personal thing, but "The Rocket" actually does something to my lashes beyond just coating them black.

What products do you recommend to try?

This Week's Most Loved #42

It's crazy to me how one week can just drag on by and then the following week is over in a blink. Time is a funny, funny thing. Although I haven't been in the mood for makeup this week, I still found myself really enjoying a couple of products.

I'm still fully on the MAC train and can't get enough. MAC's "Teddy" Eye Kohl Pencil ($16) has been a dream to use on days where I want a nice, subtle, smudged out liner. It works exceptionally well under the eyes and I just can't get over how creamy it is! Plus I've been enjoying using a product from MAC that isn't a lipstick. However I could probably only have MAC lipsticks get rid of the rest of my lipsticks and not miss them at all. My current love is "Plumful" ($16). It's the perfect berry shade for this season without being completely full on. A must get.

It's been ages since I've used my  Marcelle Cream Blush in "Coral," This applies wonderfully with the fingers or the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush ($8.99). It's a fairly subtle blush, but provides a nice no-makeup glow to the cheeks. Plus it lasts all day and with lengthy days like mine that's always a plus!

What products have you been loving this week?

Autumn Apple Outing Outfit

It's a yearly tradition for Alex and I to go to an apple orchard in October. It's a special thing we do just us and I look forward to it every year! This year I thought I'd let you tag along and see what I wore! I'm definitely not a fashionista and this blog isn't heavy on the fashion posts, but I couldn't pass up sharing my casual outfit in such a cool shooting location! If you're interested in seeing more of our trip, I posted a vlog about it earlier this week!

What do you wear during the fall? Do you spread your fashion wings or keep it simple?

I Get the Hype: The MAC 217

It feels like it's been ages in the making. I've talked about getting this brush longer than I've had this blog, and yet I refused to dish out the cash to bring the MAC 217 ($24) home with me. During a recent shopping trip with friends I was feelin' spendy and took the plunge. I completely get the hype over this baby.

I'm sure you've heard it all before, but you need the MAC 217. It's marketed as a blending brush, but I find it applies shadow to the lid just as well as it blends everything out. I've been primarily using it to blend out cream shadows to my brow bone. The handle is sturdy, but oddly shorter than I expected it was going to be.

I can definitely tell the quality and skill of this brush. A lot of my other brushes make the whole eye shadow process somewhat annoying and messy, but this somehow makes it easier. Maybe it's my expectation that it'll be awesome swaying my opinion, or maybe it is really just that good. I'm curious to see what other MAC brushes are like and would love to get a blush brush or foundation brush to add to my collection.

Now I just have to keep my promises to wash my brushes more...

The Autumn Base

With autumn in full swing I've switched things up base wise to keep up with the change in weather. Although I'm still madly in love with my Stila One Step Correct primer, I'm giving it a break and using the Tarte Clean Slate Flawless ($30) primer to prep my face. It's a lovely creamy primer that dries quickly on the skin and doesn't leave a weird silky film behind. It doesn't color correct as well as the Stila offering, but a heavier base hides anything it can't cover.

For foundation I've been making a mixture of three different products. Up first is my beloved L'Oréal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup ($12.99). It's a bit on the lighter side for me so I've been adding a blob of my NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in "St. Moritz" ($42) to darken things up a bit. Plus any excuse to use the tinted moisturizer! For the hell of it I've been plopping a dab of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm ($14). I'm not crazy about the scent of this; peppermint mixed with something medicinal. However when mixed with another product the scent isn't as overpowering.

I still haven't gotten back into using powders despite my best efforts to give them an honest shot. I move swiftly on to applying blush without much thought of setting powders. I've been enjoying Tarte's "Fearless" ($26) as it provides a beautiful pink pop on the cheeks without looking overdone.

This base lasts the entire day I'm running through an apple orchard or picking out pumpkins. It provides the perfect amount of glow without looking too dewy. It's definitely a winner.

What's your autumn base?

Crayons for Beauty Lovers

Although it's taken me quite a while to get on the bandwagon for crayon makeup products, I'm completely hooked these days. From lip crayons to eye shadow sticks and back again it's become sort of an obsession. They're easy to use, are creamy, and last ages. What's not to love?

The obsession really started when I picked up a handful of Kiko Long Lasting Eye Shadow Sticks (€6,90). These babies changed my eye shadow game. My new loves are the Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks ($4.49). I recently picked up "Trespassing Taupe" and "Bootleg Brown" and haven't touched a powder shadow since. "Trespassing Taupe" is my perfect every day shade. It's downright lovely with MAC's "Teddy" Kohl liner. More on that duo in another post though.

For lips NARS, Revlon, and Bourjois are killin' it in the lip crayon department. The only actual crayon is the NARS offering in "Rikugien" ($25). The rest are plastic packaging with twistable easy-to-use bases. I don't know what it is about lip crayons that make them so easy to apply regardless of shade or consistency. Dark lipsticks I always struggle with, but a crayon takes all the trouble out of application. I'm hooked on crayons, that's for sure.

What are your favorite crayon products? Anything I definitely need to try?

This Week's Most Loved #41

This Friday sure did come slow this week. I'm happy to be sitting down to write this post with the weekend on the horizon and a lovely two days full of apple orchards, family time, and sleep. Here are the items that help make my days a little brighter.

Although I've just acquired MAC's "Captive" ($16), I'm fully obsessed. It's a bit darker than it's showing up in the photo. It's more of a plum berry with purple tones than the pinky hue it's giving off. It's my perfect autumn/winter shade. Sure I still love the death out of "Plumful," but "Captive" is the dark lip I've been searching for without making me too nervous to wear it. It's divine.

Another new addition to my stash that has risen to the top of the ranks this week is my Rimmel Scandaleyes Stick Shadow in "Trespassing Taupe". It's so easy to pop on the lids and blend out with a finger. The color is a beautiful caramel brown and lasts all day, without fail. It's dark enough that it shows up on the lid, but not super dark that it's va va voom for the workplace.

With all the dark lips I've been attempting to wear lately I've lightened things up substantially in the cheeks department. I've brought out my Revlon Cream Blush in "Pinched" ($10.99) to give my cheeks some color, but not too much that they compete with my lip color at the moment. Applied with either my fingers or the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, this goes on creamy but finishes more like a powder. It's not the best in longevity, but it lasts throughout my work day well enough!

What products have you been loving this week?

New MAC & Drugstore Goodies

A week or so ago I met up with a lovely subscriber Viktoria for a shopping trip! We had talked for a while on Twitter and then she came to Flint from Germany for a study abroad program. We met for coffee a couple of weeks ago and decided we had to go shopping together. It was a blast beauty shopping with someone who knew what I was talking about! I very rarely have beauty obsessed shopping buddies, so it was great to chat over the slight differences in MAC lipsticks and spend copious amounts of time swatching things.

I hope you enjoy the video and let me know if you've picked up any beauty goodies recently!

A Love, Hate Relationship with Essie

Although the majority of my nail polish is Essie, I have a love, hate relationship with the brand. The color range is fantastic. That's what draws me in to the polishes in the first place. Then there are the names. Adorable, pun filled, irresistible. But when I take my new beauties home and apply the first coat to my nails, I'm too often disappointed.

Essie formulas have always been hit or miss for me. Either they're great and pigmented in two coats, or they're streaky and never quite right. Plus I find that they chip on me pretty often. All that hard work (I'm rubbish at paining my nails) to have it chip in a couple of days. Yet I still keep buying more. I reason with myself and say the pros outweigh the cons, but I really need to step out of my Essie polish box and try something new.

Any recommendations of good nail polish brands with a good color range and on par shade names?

As always you guys have such amazing recommendations and keep my bank account in trouble!

Beauty Things I Suck At

  • Washing my brushes although I actually don't mind doing it
  • Plucking or maintaining my brows in any way
  • Filling in my brows
  • Sharpening pencil products. So much waste!
  • Applying powder in a non-cakey way
  • Throwing away expired products. I always forget!
  • Breaking out of routines

What beauty things are you rubbish at?

How to Accomplish Everything, and Still Have a Life

I am busy. The kind of busy that other people see and think I'm crazy for trying to accomplish as much as I strive to. I work full time, run this blog and a lifestyle blog, go to graduate school, make YouTube videos, run an ever growing stationery store, and still try to have a social life. It's definitely not easy, but I've found a way to juggle it all and still have time to catch up on the latest Doctor Who episode with Alex. Here's how I accomplish everything, and still have a life.

  • My agenda and I are best friends. I go nowhere without it. I leave it open in front of me at my desk all day at work. I'm constantly looking at what's coming up today, tomorrow, and the rest of the week. Knowing what's already on the books makes it easier to squeeze in little things here and there.
  • Designated days. On Tuesdays I do my homework for my classes on Wednesdays. On Saturday I take blog photos and new product photos. On Sundays I film videos and catch up on all the things I couldn't accomplish the rest of the week. Having days that you know you do certain things makes planning so much easier.
  • I don't squander free moments. If I find I have a couple of minutes between things or Alex is running a few minutes late, I'll use that time to accomplish something small on my to do list. Sure I occasionally use it to check Instagram, but those spare moments can really add up and if used wisely my to do list is done in no time.
  • My apartment is a mess. I could spend time making sure everything is tidy, or I can leave the dishes for another day so I can work on new sketches for my business. Our friends know that Alex and I are constantly busy and they don't mind a mess. We do of course clean, it's just not a constant need or focus.
  • I prioritize like crazy. I know it's impossible to accomplish everything always, so I make sure I do the most important things first. I finish my work tasks and homework before I worry about blogging or my next YouTube video. That way if I find myself out of time, all the really necessary things are done.
  • I don't have other hobbies. Blogging and my etsy shop are my hobbies. I don't really do much else as I probably wouldn't have time for it. I don't read much anymore (I wish I did!) and I am not into video games.
  • I challenge myself. Sure I could cut down on a few things here and there and lessen the load, but I know I'm capable of doing everything I want to achieve in a week. Why not challenge myself and see if I can get a few more sticker designs on my shop or have all my blog posts done at the start of the week?
  • I still make time for friends. I'm terrible at this and have to constantly remind myself that I can't be a recluse all the time. I love working on my projects, but I also need to make sure I have some time to socialize with my littles and friends. This keeps me grounded and ultimately more focused on getting stuff done so I can hang out with them.
  • I have amazing people to help me. If it wasn't for Alex my stationery shop would have never gotten off the ground. He's a constant and huge help in every aspect of my life and makes it so I can do everything I want to and more. My friends are also there to help package cards and help with whatever I'm up to at the moment.

My weeks can get hectic and sometimes I wonder why I bother trying to do it all, but when I get a tweet that someone likes the content on my blog or I have another sale in my shop, it all becomes worth it. I love everything I cram into my week, but I still have a life. How do you stay organized and accomplish everything on your to do list? Is there something you struggle with?

This Week's Most Loved #40

Another week in the bag and I've been playing in my beauty stash again! These posts have really helped me to branch out and keep mixing things up in my makeup stash. No one would like a repetitive this week's most loved post!

I'm terrible at doing anything with my hair. I wash it, I blow dry it, and I let it do its thing. Very rarely do I put any product into it besides the bare minimum, but lately I've rekindled my love for the OGX Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Root Boost Spray ($7.99). It's definitely not a holy grail makes my hair unbelievably amazing kind of product, but it does provide a little more oomph to my perpetually flat and lifeless hair. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if a product can do anything to my hair I'm an instant fan. This stuff smells amazing and doesn't make my hair feel gross or stiff.

I recently picked up another tube of Maybelline's The Rocket Mascara ($7.49) and I now remember why I love it so much. It separates my lashes while giving them some serious volume. It's a lot better than the higher end mascaras I've tried. It's important to note though that mascara is a very individual thing. A raved about mascara (Benefit's Their Real Mascara...) could really not work on your lashes (it's a sad disaster).

Finally I've rediscovered my NARS Satin Lip Pencil in "Rikugien" ($25) and have been enjoying it a lot this week. It's another lip product that's incredibly close to my natural lip color, but I love how much moisture this gives my lips. It's more of a balm for me than anything else, but it lasts for ages and is incredibly nice feeling on the lips. I'm interested in more colors from this range for sure.

What products have you been loving this week?

It's September favorites time and I'm surprised at how few products I decided to include. As we transition into autumn I'm still in that awkward, but I want to wear bright nail polish and summery things phase. Anyone else have difficulty letting go and moving into the next season?

I hope you enjoy the video!

The Darkest Lip I'll Wear

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a complete chicken when it comes to a bold lip. I rarely venture past my absurd collection of my lips but better lipsticks. When I do there's only so far I'll go into the dark lip world before I stop. Slowly but surely I'll toe my way into the true dark lip world, but until then these lip products are as far as I will go.

Starting with the lightest of the group Be a Bombshell's Lip Crayon in "Shameless" ($) is a nice rosy pink with gold glitter running tastefully throughout. There are hints of plum in it which is why I decided it was worth including although it seems a bit on the lighter side of things. It can be built up quite a lot. It applies more a like a balm and is easy to wear without worrying about it throughout the day.

Two lipsticks that are very similar in color are the  Kiko Smart Lipstick in "Rosa Palissandro" (€3,90) and the Deborah Milano Il Rossetto in "800". Both are still quite pink, with a mauve undertone that can be built up for a darker lip if wanted. I prefer the Kiko offering over the Deborah Milano one for moisture and longevity, but they're both eerily similar so if you can't find one over the other you're safe with either.

Moving a little darker is the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in "Sultry" ($5.69). My most worn out of the edit, this balm is the perfect dark lip for me. It still has the purple/mauve undertones I know and love, but with a bit more red thrown in to really get it to stand out on my lips. It's hydrating for being a matte product, but lasts ages on the lips. It doesn't slip around once applied, but the first application needs a closer eye to make sure everything is in its proper place.

Definitely more on the purple side of dark lips is the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in "Rapture" ($22). I find myself applying this very lightly as it can get a little too purple for my taste. A light patting on the lips and it's the perfect wash of dark plum color. The Revolution lipstick formula is amazing. Thick but still hydrating and lasts ages.

Finally the Stila Long Wear Lip Color in "Daring" ($10) is something else. It's dark. Like, if I'm feeling adventurous and sexy dark. I'm sure others would just call it a dark plum, but to me it's a dark ninja lip color. It's moisturizing and the packaging makes it easy to apply, but it's the farthest point I'll potentially go on the dark lip spectrum. Maybe I'll get more "daring" (bahahaha) and give it more options to shine this autumn. No time like the present right?

What are your favorite dark lip colors?
