The Red Lip Alternative

I've never been one to particularly enjoy the red lip trend for winter. I love it on other people and beauty bloggers, but I just don't find them to be overly flattering on me. I've found myself gravitating more towards mauve, raspberry shades for this winter. They have that deep tone apply that reds have, but doesn't go so far as to being that bright bold lip. First up (far left on my arm) is Rimmel's Moisture Renew Lipstick in "Coral Garden" ($6.99), a coral raspberry that makes me feel like spring is just around the corner. It looks wonderful on my mauve lips and appears even darker than in the swatch. Next up is MAC's "Plumful" ($15) a mauve tone that is nearly a deep red when put on my lips. It's been my favorite red lip alternative this season when I want to make a statement.

In the middle is the Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in "Soulmate" ($7.99). The most raspberry of the group this lipstick I've had in my collection for years. I find myself returning to it every winter when I want a darker lip but still am not interested in reds. I've included MAC's "Syrup" ($15) into the mix because when put on my mauve natural lips, it looks unbelievable. No lipstick has been so my lips but better than this lovely beauty. Finally, the Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in "104" ($5.49) ticks all the boxes for the perfect alternative to the red lip. It's a beautiful matte that doesn't dry out your lips or leave you wanting more, and makes a statement with its dark hue.

Do you like the red lip trend or do you reach for something else during the cold months?

xoxo Kayla
